Sagar Shah caused a big upset in the third round of the Mumbai Mayor’s cup chess Tournament on 02nd May as he beat third seed Russian grandmaster Vladimir Belov.

   I have been playing chess for the last 8 years. I played only local tournaments in Mumbai in my formative years and now I have represented India in Russia and Spain.
   I was Maharastra state U-15 Champion, I was placed 8th in the national champion U-15 at Chennai. Because of this performance, I represented India at the 4th international sports games Of Asia for children, yarutsk , Russia there I received a team bronze medal with my Team-mates.
    In 2007, I was Maharastra state U-15 champion. I finished 6th in the national U-15 champion. Thus, I represented India in spain for '3' open tournaments in June-July 2009.In the first tournaments in the open section, I was placed 8th finishing ahead of several good players this tournaments included players form 11 countries and players were About 50. This tournament allowed for all ages and just not (U-15). This tournament consisted of players ranked around "100" in the world.
    In 2008, I won a trophy and a cash prize of 50 euros for this performance all this 3 tournament were sponsored by the "Government of India" as a part to give exposure to students of chess finishing in the "Top 6" in the U-15 and U-19 Nationals.
