Hearty congratulations to Shubham Kumthekar from S.Y.B.Com for securing the 5th position (Tied 2nd) out of 176 players in 'Suraj All-India FIDE Rating Open Chess Tournament' held at Sangli by scoring 7/9 and remaining undefeated. His has a current FIDE Rating of 1922 ELO points. he is part of the R.A.Podar College Team that won the Mumbai University Inter-Collegiate Team Championship 2014. He scored 5.5/6 and 4/6 at the Zonal and University level respectively and remained undefeated. He also participated in the National Junior Chess Tournament 2014 and scored 5.5/11. He has increased 175 ELO points in a space of 2 months (November & December). Shubham has secured Prizes at All-India FIDE Rating tournaments held at Delhi,Kolhapur and Nipani.

R A Podar College Of Commerce And Economics convincingly won the Inter-Collegiate Chess Tournament held on 18th and 19th of September at Mulund College Of Commerce.Inter-Collegiate Chess Tournament is a team event with 2 players in a team and a reserve. There were from five rounds in all(10 games).

The boys comprising of Jay Gandhi, Shreedhar Patil and Harsh Gandhi,(all rated) whitewashed all their opponents to emerge winner so did the girls team consisting of Dhanashree Pandit, Kinjal Makharia,and Natasha Fernandez. The boys won the event for 20th time and the for the girls it was their 12th time.

Podar lifts Varsity Cup after long time

R. A. Podar College beat D. G. Ruparel College by 7 wickets in the Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournament (2012-13) played during 16th to 19th April at Elf Vengasarkar Academy, Oval Maidan, Churchgate . After long wait of 10 years Podar has lifted the prestigious Hon. Sir Ibrahim Rahimtoola Cup. The Cup was instituted by the University of Mumbai way back in 1921 and has passed through the hands of Polly Umrigar, Farokh Engineer (ex. Podar Student), Dilip Vengasarkar (ex. Podar Student) and in the recent past by Rohit Sharma(ex. Rizvi Student).

Ebullient Rhythmic Gymnast Akshata Shetye, a 20-year-old collegian from Poddar College, is India's queen in the field of Rhythmic Gymnastics.She was crowned by the Best Sportsman of the State Award ie, Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Award by Maharashtra Govt.With her countless efforts &hardworking for more than a decade she reached on a top of achievements. Along with her sportive body & attitude her pation & involvement in the game made her ideal.

Recently with her celebrity status she lead the State team in National Games, Ranchi & bring glory to Maharashtra by 4 gold & 1 bronze medal. Within a months' time she was honored twice by the honorary chief minister of the State in person; once for getting Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Award & second time with cash reward of Rs.21.5 lakhs for the success at National Games, Ranchi. With her successful career as a player Akshata is now ready to a challenge of coaching & officiating in the field of Rhythmic Gymnastics.
