  1. 2nd December- Orientation to F.Y.B.Com Mentors about Credit Systems

Events organized in  the month of November  2011 by the staff and students of R.A. Podar college of commerce  and economics.

November: 2011.

  1. 31st October to 5th November: Yoga camp for the non-teaching staff in association with under the Wellness Program was conducted in the college auditorium. (An IQAC initiative)

  2. 11th November: World Education day was celebrated in the college.

  3. 13th November: 10 day Industrial Visit for students to Rajasthan was organized by the B.M.S. department.

  4. 13th November: The faculty and students of Stuttgard School from Germany under the student exchange program arrived in India for a 10 days visit.

  5. 14th November:  Senior College reopened after the Diwali break.

  6. 16th November to 18th November: Library Exhibition was held in the College auditorium.

  7. 16th November: Staff meeting was held in the conference room.

  8. 17th November: N.S.S. organized a street play in association with an NGO- SOPAN to create awareness regarding concerns of children with challenges.

  9. 19th November: University of Mumbai toppers of the M.Com and B.Com examinations from the college were felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor at the University Club house.

  10. 22nd November: The department of Commerce conducted a one day workshop for college teachers on behalf of B.O.S (Management) University of Mumbai.

  11. 22nd November: N.S.S organized a lecture on “Hepatitis: Its causes and cure”

  12. 23rd November: A farewell meet was organized for the German delegation that completed their 10 day visit under the Student Exchange Program.

  13. 24th November: Our alumnus Cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar inaugurated “Panorama” a three day career
    organized by the Career Guidance Forum. A series of lecture were conducted in the three day fest.

  16. 26th November: Felicitation of the M.Com and T.Y.B.Com University of Mumbai rank holders of the college by degree college staff members.

  17. 26th November: A.D. Shroff Elocution competition was conducted on behalf of the Forum of free Enterprise

  18. 26th November: Placement cell of the college began their “Placement week” wherein Companies made presentations. Group discussions and Personal Interviews of the students followed.

  19. 28th November to 5th December: First Term End S.Y.B.Com results were declared by the mentors of each class and parents briefed on the performance of their wards.

  20. 29th November - A lecture on “Mutual Fund and investments” was conducted by Himanshu Mehta.




Events organized in  the month of September  2011 by the staff and students of R.A. Podar college of commerce  and economics.

September: 2011.

  1. Marathi Wangmay Mandal  and The Artist guild organized the Ganesh Utsav in the college Auditorium on Thursday  1st September  wherein ,an eco-friendly  Ganesh idol was installed . A replica of the college structure was constructed by the college students as a part of the stage decorations.

  2. Marathi Wangmay Mandal  and The Artist guild of the college  organized a  Cultural program on 2nd September  which  witnessed  participation from staff, students and parents. Traditional lunch was served to the teaching and non-teaching staff on this occasion.

  3. Industrial Interface Forum organized a guest lecture on “on 3rd September .The guest speaker was   Mr. Jyotindra R. Shah (President of Seven Seas Enterprise) .He spoke on “International trade With Indian Perspective.

  4. Podar Hiker’s Club organized a hike for the teaching staff   on 4th September to Karjat. The hike was attended by teaching staff along with their family members.

  5. On the occasion of   Teachers Day celebration, the college library exhibited classic books on and by Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on 5th September .The exhibition was held for three days (5th September to 7th September) in the main library.

  6. Industrial Interface Forum arranged an Industrial Visit to Parle’s Bisleri Plant in Mumbai on Tuesday 6th September. 50 students participated in the field trip which was followed by an interactive question and answer session with the management  of company.

  7. The Library Orientation Program for First Year Junior College students was conducted from Friday, 9th September to 13th September .

  8.  Vocational students from the subject of Marketing and salesmanship made a one day  field trip to Paper Products ,Silvassa  on 9th September.

  9. A guest lecture was arranged on the topic ‘  Sovereign ratings : uses and pitfalls’ by our Alumnus, Mr Prahlad Burli an economist and  consultant with Deloittee on Saturday 10th September in the conference room for the staff-members.

  10.  Second Class-test for the First Year B.Com and Third Year B.com under the Internal Assessment Scheme was conducted from 13th September to 16th September.

  11. The IQAC conducted a workshop on use of ICT tools for the senior college staff members on 14th September in the Audio-Visual Room situated in the Library. The workshop was conducted by the librarian Mr Santosh Patil. 

  12. As a part of the Wellness Program 2011  (An IQAC initiative),after the eye check-up  of the non-teaching staff , Ophthalmologist Dr Vrinda Raikar  delivered a lecture on “Eye car” to them on  Thursday  15th September in the conference room.

  13.  The IQAC conducted a workshop on use of ICT tools for the Junior college staff members on 16th September in the Audio-Visual Room situated in the Library. The workshop was conducted by the librarian Mr Santosh Patil. 

  14. Rostrum-Spectrum, an Inter-collegiate literary fest organized by the Speaker’s Academy and Group discussion cell along with the Planning forum and English Literary Cell began on 16th September. The festival got a very good response from various colleges of the city.

  15. The Grand Finale of the Rostrum-Spectrum was held on Saturday   17th September with esteemed judges presiding over the event.

  16. A workshop on ‘Lateral thinking ‘was conducted as a part of Rostrum -Spectrum  which was  organized by the Planning Forum. The speaker for the session, Mr. Suhail Gupta, Managing Director of Edward De Bono Methods in India and Middle East, and Consultant at Ideas Management Consultancy.

  17. The Placement Cell in association with ‘Young Buzz’ organized a workshop on ‘Resume writing’ for the Third year B,Com and B.M.S. students on Tuesday 20th September.

  18. Vocational students from the subject of Marketing and salesmanship made a field trip Reserve Bank of India and Indian Institute of Jewellery on 22nd September.

  19. N.S.S. day   was celebrated on 24th September .The N.S.S. volunteers tied white bands around the wrists of the teaching and non-teaching staff.

  20. First term end examination for the Second Year B.Com students commenced on 24th September.

  21. Podar Hiker’s Club organized a one day hike for the students to Irshal on 25th September.

  22. Artist  Guild and Marathi  Wangnay  Mandal organized ‘Bhondala and  Garba   ‘ in the college auditorium for the staff  and the students as a part of our Navrathri celebrations.

  23. The IQAC activated   the Institutional Email Ids for the all staff members of the college on 30th September .

August 2011

  1. The Research & Development Cell organized a lecture by Ms. Renuka Anantharaman, Branch Manager of Bank of Maharashtra, Telang Road Branch,Mumbai.She enlightened students on “Financial Inclusion of Urban Working Women in the Unorganized Sector”, on August 3, 2011.This talk initiated students into the social research project. The goal of this survey is to assess the financial awareness of women working in the informal sector like vegetable, fruit and flower sellers as also house helps working in different residences in and around Matunga,Mumbai.

  2. The College magazine  committee conducted a workshop on “Creative writing” for the college students on 5th August 2011  to encourage to more students to write and express their ideas.

  3. R.A.Podar College of Commerce and Economics, Matunga, Mumbai, on behalf of the University of Mumbai ,hosted the the 44thYouth festival elimination  rounds of the Performing Art events (Theatre, Drama Dance and Music) from 7th August to 8th August 2011 in the college premises.

  6. Friendship day celebration by distributing MDACS’ friendship bands to spread HIV/AIDS awareness on 8th August.(NSS)

  9. Independence Day celebrations organized by the B.M.S. dept ,N.C.C.,N.S.S and Women’s Development Cell of the college.

  10. The Planning and economic forum organized  ,The foreign currency attack game, in the Audio –Visual Room on 27th August 2011 which was moderated by Prof Koustubh Joshi.

  11. The Career Guidance Forum-CGF inaugurated its activities for the year 2011-12 with a seminar on ‘CAREERS IN COMMERCE’ on 30th August, 2011. It aimed at enlightening the students regarding the various career options available to them in commerce like Finance, Banking, Insurance, Management, Law, Accountancy, Actuarial etc. The speaker Ms. Jenny Chetiyar, a career counsellor from Youngbuzz, spoke to the students about popular careers like C.A. and C.S. and also about out-of-careers like Animation, Product Designing, Sports management, etc.  The programme was attended by more than 200 students.
    The CGF also announced the appointment of a career counsellor from Youngbuzz, who would visit the college once a week and counsel students on one to one basis at no cost.

July 2011

  1. The College had organized a half day orientation session for the F.Y.B.Com students on 4/7/2011. The entire strength of F.Y.B.Com students were staggered into groups and were briefed about college discipline and code of conduct. A unique feature of this event was that the event was managed by the students. It was an interactive session with the parents and the students who attended the orientation session.

  2. Guest lecture by Mrs. Manju Ganeriwala deputy secretary of finance by governor of Virginia, Podar alumna organized by Women’s Development Cell in the series Women at power: a journey towards success for college students on 8th July.

  3. Student Resource Centre, An IQAC initiative was inaugurated by former Vice Principal Mrs. Daya Potdar and Former Vice Principal Mrs. Kumud Misra on 9th July.

  4. Wellness Program, an IQAC initiative, organized an eye check-up camp by Dr. Vrinda V. Raikar Consulting Eye & Refractive Surgeon the non-teaching staff of the college on 12th July.

  5. One day State level Seminar on ‘Application of Mathematics and Statistics to Business, Commerce and Industry’ for college teachers on 15th July .The Resource persons were Dr. Inder. K. Rana, Professor of Mathematics, IIT Mumbai , Prof., Poornima Raina, Department of Mathematics, Mumbai University ,Dr Narasimhan. R. Chari, Head of Department of Mathematics, D. J. Sanghvi College of Engineering and Prof. Parag Mahulikar, Dean and Senior Professor of    Marketing at IES Management College.

  6. Workshop on Public speaking Skills conducted by Ruta Vyas, a Podar Alumna, and a Management Consultant was organized by Speaker’s Academy and Group discussion cell for college students on 16th July.

  7. Inauguration of "Podar Wall", a Sports Climbing Wall, and Exhibition of Photographs  taken by Podar Hikers ( past & present) by Apa Sherpa who holds a world record for climbing Everest 21 times .The Event was organized  by Podar’s Hikers Club. On 16th July. The other Guest of honor were Mr Brian Daly, from Arunachal Pradesh - expert in caves, Mr Ang Tsering Sherpa, Founder of Asian Trekking, Kathmandu and Mr Dawa Sherpa, Kathmandu.

  8. An orientation for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) was conducted in R.A.Podar College of Commerce and Economics on the 20th of July, 2011. The resource person for the program was Ms. Vaishali Anand Patil, the Director of Study Circle, which is an institute that trains students for competitive exams like UPSC and MPSC

  9. One day recreational outing to Saguna baug for the non-teaching staff was organised on 21st July.

  10. "Kartavya" - The Intercollegiate Debate competition organized  by Mumbai University / Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies in collaboration with India Against Corruption, Mumbai was conducted on 23rd July with participation .

  11. The Planning and Economics forum of the college exhibited the Film “Inside Job” in the Audio-visual room followed by discussion on 23rd July.

  12. The Quizzers League conducted an Entertainment Quiz for college students on 23rd July.

  13. NSS orientation for college students arranged on 26th July.

  14. Red Ribbon Club (R.R.C) membership drive on 26th July.

  15. A guest lecture by the founders of an NGO “World for All” delivered a lecture on Projects to be undertaken for animal welfare by the college students on 26th July. An IQAC initiative.

  16. Anti-malaria campaigning by NSS volunteers in the slums near the college areas on 30th July.


  17. The Photography Club  organized a workshop was on on 30th July,2011, on ‘Basics of photography’ by Mr Anand Nagwekar a Podar Alumnus and having avid interest in Photography. The students were given tips on the fine nuances of Photography skills.

  18. Podar Hiker’s Club organized an overnight hike toTringalwadi, near Igatpuri on 30th and 31st July 2011.Around 50 students participated in the same.

June 2011

  1. Four Weeks course of Information technology training in collaboration with Institute of Chartered Accountancy of India (ICAI) for students pursuing Chartered Accountancy.

  2. One day Workshop for college teachers on Operations Research organized by the department Of BMS (BMS Semester VI) on 21st June .

  3. Half –day Workshop on Time management for College teachers (Degree and Junior) by Kuntal Doshi (consulting Psychologist)  organized by Self development Cell on 30th June.
