Re-started in 2009, the English Literary Circle sought to increase English awareness amongst students. The Circle commenced its activities with a Creative Writing contest on a gamut of topics ranging from ‘If I were the Youth Affairs minister’, ‘Gun vs. Roses’ to ‘A day in the life of an Article’. The forum organised a Literary Quiz in co-ordination with Quizzers’ League and an Article Writing session for college magazine ‘Podar Pageant’. The English Literary Circle (ELC) was an active participant in organising the peripheral events like Quiz and Word Games at ‘Rostrum Spectrum 2009’. 35 students from the Junior College participated in a Spelling Bee organised by MaRRs International Spelling Bee. 19 students have qualified for the finals which will be held in late 2010. The ELC conducted a literary discussion session in which three of the greatest literary masterpieces – ‘Sonnet 18’and ‘Friends, Romans, Countrymen…’ by William Shakespeare and a short story ‘A Legend of Egypt’ by Boleslaw Prus – were discussed. The ELC played a role in sending participants to various inter-collegiate literary events. These students won awards such as 3rd prize in the Spelling Bee at Umang and 3rd prize in Pictionary at DAV.
